Jorge Lorenzo won easily with a 6 second margin over Pedroa.
MotoGP World Championship, Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya, Round 7 of 18
Lorenzo Continues winning at Catalunya Catalunya, Spain, July 1-3rd - Jorge Lorenzo became the first Yamaha rider to win three successive premier class races from pole position since Eddie Lawson back in 1986, when he took his fifth victory of his 2010 campaign at today's Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya. The Mallorcan is now 52 points clear at the top of the championship standings as a result of his phenomenal run of form and his second win on home soil this season.
Dani Pedrosa made one of his trademark rapid starts from the second row to lead into Turn 1, but he then ran wide coming out and had dropped down to ninth by the end of the first lap. It was an error Pedrosa managed to recover from in the early laps however, as he quickly fought his way back to third.
Aleix Espargaró had a run-off as he pushed hard to move up the order and Andrea Dovizioso started a fight for the lead with Lorenzo on lap three when he overtook to move into first, but it was a lead Lorenzo regained on the next lap as the battle lines were drawn.
Running in third place, Casey Stoner ran off track shortly after and dropped to fifth as Randy de Puniet and Pedrosa came through. Espargaró then suffered disappointment in his home race when he crashed out on lap six.
Lap 14 proved to be an eventful one as first Marco Simoncelli crashed out of sixth place, as he chased his best premier class finish to date. Then, in a decisive moment for the race, Dovizioso also went down as he pushed himself when chasing Lorenzo at the front, rejoining the race in 15th place shortly after.
With that, Lorenzo was clear by just over 5.5s with less than half the race to go, and Stoner and Pedrosa began duelling for second place with de Puniet further back in fourth. Lorenzo’s lead proved to be too much and he crossed the line 4.754s clear to take his fifth win of the season. Pedrosa won the scrap for second by just two-tenths of a second from Stoner, as the podium of the previous round at Assen was repeated.
Fourth place and his best result of the campaign so far went to de Puniet after yet another impressive ride on the satellite RC212V of the LCR Honda team. In fifth with a superb ride was rookie Álvaro Bautista, as he produced a magnificent effort on his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R.
Ben Spies continued his progress with sixth place on another new circuit, and Loris Capirossi, Nicky Hayden, Marco Melandri – on his return from a dislocated shoulder and fractured sternum – and Héctor Barberá all finished inside the top ten, with Dovizioso eventually finishing 14th.
Lorenzo now has 165 points with Pedrosa on 113 in second. Dovizioso remains third on 91, with Hayden, de Puniet and Stoner all leapfrogging the absent Valentino Rossi to fill positions four to six.

Takahashi Takes Exciting Moto2 Victory
Yuki Takahashi took his first Grand Prix victory since 2006 when he won today's somewhat chaotic Moto2 race at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya. The Tech 3 rider won from second place on the grid, profiting from a mistake by Andrea Iannone who was penalised for overtaking at Turn 1 when the yellow flags were out.
A typically frantic Moto2 start was marred by a huge crash in Turn 1 as Alex Debón, Mike di Meglio, Roberto Rolfo, Robertino Pietri, Shoya Tomizawa, Héctor Faubel, Dominique Aegerter, Sergio Gadea and Alex Baldolini all went down. Clear of the pile up were Thomas Lüthi, Toni Elías, Takahashi, Iannone and Julián Simón and it was this group that ended battling for the top positions throughout the race.
With the yellow flag still out from the opening lap and no overtaking therefore allowed, Iannone’s move on Takahashi to assume the lead resulted in the Italian being demoted back to second, a message his team tried desperately to convey to him but without success. Shortly after Niccolò Canepa crashed out at Turn 9 and his bike caught fire in dramatic fashion, and Ratthapark Wilairot was another faller as the pace remained at the limit.
With eight laps remaining and Iannone not having taken his demotion the Italian was issued with a Ride Through penalty - he eventually finished 13th - and his surrendering of the lead placed Takahashi at the head of the race.
Following behind the Japanese rider were Lüthi and Simón, but at a distance of almost five seconds as the end of the race approached. Victory was therefore safe for Takahashi and he crossed the line 5.037s clear of the pair, who fought to the last corner with Lüthi edging it by just 0.163s for his third successive podium. Simón’s third place was his third podium of the 2010 campaign.
Completing the top six were Karel Abraham, Toni Elías and Simone Corsi. There was a spectacular crash for Carmelo Morales as he tried to slipstream Kenny Noyes for seventh on the start/finish straight. Apart from a minor contusion on his hand the substitute rider was uninjured in the crash.
The race result means Elías remains at the top of the standings on 111 points, with Lüthi second on 94 and Simón third on 77. Tomizawa is fourth, just a point behind Simón, after his DNF today.

Changes for 2011 -
Rossi to Ducati!
Stoner to Honda!
Catalunya 7/03/2010 - While no official announcements have yet been made by the their respective MotoGP teams, there were dramatic rider changes for the 2011 MotoGP season being talked about at Catalunya this weekend.
The biggest move, still unconfirmed officially, is reigning 2009 MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi leaving Yamaha with his complete support team of mechanics and manager Jeremy Burgess and moving to Ducati.
It has been known talk e for a couple of years now that the 5-time Italian World Champion was hoping to end his career racing for an Italian manufacturer, and in particular Ducati.
Adding to Valentino's decision to make that move now, sooner than later, was his statement last year that he did not want to remain at Yamaha if they had two number one riders on the team, he and Jorge Lorenzo. With Jorge now leading the 2010 Championship on a bike that Valentino developed, the line in the sand had been crossed.
And we might guess that Valentino's crash and resulting broken leg at Misano last month while fighting team mate Jorge for the race lead, made Rossi realize even more dramatically he needed to make the planed move now, and that his career might not last many more years.
The real shocker though, is the work that Casey Stoner is leaving the highly competitive Ducati, with his complete support team, and the bike which won him the 2008 MotoGP World Championship.
We would guess this has a lot to do with the recent budget cuts at Ducati which saw both the top team managers and engineers at Ducati Corse MotoGP and Ducati Corse Superbike let go last fall, and move to Honda and BMW respectively this year.
That and the fact Honda had vowed last year they would buy their way back to the top of the podium in MotoGP, even if they had to do it with non-Japanese riders and engineers.
Ducati probably just didn't have the money to match what Honda has offered Stoner. And with the knowledge that Rossi would be joining them anyway next season, Ducati just didn't see the need to beak the bank to try and keep Stoner.
Ducati's other regretful decision, one of many they seem to be making these days, is that they will still probably continue to keep American rider Nicky Hadyen for next year, despite the fact he can't get anywhere close to winning a race again. Ducati North America somehow thinks having Hayen on the team is critical for bike sales in the American market. That is just plain stupid. Customers buy bikes when they win races, not when they loose. Americans bought a lot of Ducati's because foreigners Carl Fogarty, Troy Bayliss and casey Stoner won on them. Not because of Ben Bostrom, Neil Hodgson and Nicky Hayden loosing on them. - Editor
Valentino Rossi test ride in Misano todayafter just 4 weeks!
July 7th - Valentino Rossi will ride a Yamaha YZF-R1 at a private test in Misano, Italy this afternoon. The Italian has made an excellent recovery so far since breaking his leg at Mugello on 5th June and he has decided to proceed with the test ride today in order to better understand his current physical condition. Riding a racing motorcycle will help Valentino and his doctors to plan the next stage of his rehabilitation programme in order that he may return to racing as soon as he feels confident to do so.
The test will take place using a YZF-R1 WSB machine provided by the Yamaha World Superbike Team to the Fiat Yamaha Team. Yamaha will inform the media later today of the results of the test and of Valentino's condition.

RAIN STOPS PLAY AT KNOCKHILL BRITISH SUPERBIKE

The second race was abandoned due to still worsening conditions after being red flagged on the first lap following a six-rider crash. Experts, history makers take center stage at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days July 9-11th
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Despite what we remember from our teen years, sometimes a good lecture is just what we need -- especially if it's about motorcycles. And you'll find plenty of cool lecture topics at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, July 9-11, during AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) Vintage Motorcycle Days.
Front and center at the lectern during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will be numerous historical figures and industry leaders hosting seminars ranging from riding to racing to restoring vintage motorcycles. School was never this good.
"The seminar program at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is one of the most popular features at this event," said AMA Special Events Manager Tigra Tsujikawa. "Not only do we feature those who have helped write the history of motorcycling, but we include current experts from various fields and disciplines. Topics as diverse as international off-road competition, getting started in vintage racing and practical tips for creating custom bike parts will be coverage."
All seminars are roughly 90 minutes in duration and are in the Goodyear Tower on the fourth floor, or in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Tent in the infield of the Mid-Ohio roadrace course.
Several seminars will focus on the 2010 Marque of the Year, Husqvarna. Located at the Hall of Fame Tent, these include "Husqvarna Motorcycles: The People Behind It All" by Gunnar Lindstrom on Friday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m., and "The Early Years of Husqvarna in America," featuring John Penton, Lindstrom, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Grand Marshal Malcolm Smith and Tom White on Saturday, July 10, at 1 p.m.
Fans of off-road racing will get a real treat on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 11, at 1 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Tent when the 1982 International Six Days Enduro U.S. Trophy Team will re-unite for a discussion about their all-Husqvarna effort that brought home a second-place trophy that year -- the highest finish a U.S. team has ever achieved in this storied international competition. The discussion will feature Mark Hyde, Mike Melton, Terry Cunningham, Scot Harden and Wally Wilson.
Also featured will be Bridgestone Motorcycles, the 2010 Classic Club, in talks by Randy Gibbon and Larry Young on Friday at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at 9 a.m., and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Speaking at the Goodyear Tower, Gibbon and Young will discuss both the high-quality and little-known history of this rare brand.
Perennial AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days speaker Craig Vetter returns this year to discuss motorcycle streamlining and fuel economy. Vetter will present his ideas and lead an open discussion at the Hall of Fame Tent on Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Running in conjunction with the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is known by many for its National Championship vintage competition in motocross, trials, hare scrambles, roadracing and dirt track. For those interested in getting started in the sport -- certainly one of the least intimidating and most affordable ways to get on the track -- vintage racer, promoter and sponsor Don Miller will offer advice in "How to Get Started in Vintage Racing" on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Goodyear Tower.
Two other major highlights of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days are the bike shows and North America's largest swap meet. Both, of course, inspire attendees to take on motorcycle projects of their own. If you want to do it right, you won't want to miss Bob Vail's "Building Vintage Motorcycle Specials: Techniques and Tips." Vail will discuss working with Fiberglas, welding and aluminum castings to make custom parts on Friday at 10 a.m., Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Goodyear Tower.
Triumph fans can get their fill of technical information on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. when Triumph experts John Healy and Don Hutchinson will discuss the details of working with the classic British brand.
Eric Trow will address motorcycling safety in "Ride Like It's 1969 Classic Lessons for Riding Safely Today" on Friday at 1 p.m., Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Goodyear Tower.
In addition to these seminars, there will be ample opportunity for the public to interact with Grand Marshal Malcolm Smith and other AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers who will be in attendance.
Held at the world-class Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features vintage and post-vintage competition in motocross, trials, harescrambles, roadracing and dirt track. In addition to demo rides of current production bikes, the event includes North America's largest motorcycle swap meet, educational seminars, bike shows, the Federal Companies/Allied Used Bike Corral, motorcycling seminars, the new product Manufacturers' Midway, and club corrals featuring marque and regional clubs.
Proceeds from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days benefit the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. The goal of the Hall of Fame, located on the campus of the AMA in Pickerington, Ohio, is to honor the distinguished men and women whose competitive spirit, passion, vision and entrepreneurship have played a vital role in shaping the sport, lifestyle and business of motorcycling. For more information, call (614) 856-2222, or visit the Hall of Fame's website at MotorcycleMuseum.org.
