2010 LA Calendar Motorcycle Show & Calendar Girl Music Festival
Sunday July 18th, Queen Mary Park, Long Beach

Fashion and motorsports photographer, event producer Jim Gianatsis has a passion for high performance, an ear for talent, and an eye for beauty. Somehow he's managed to combine them all together in one incredible mixture of day-long excitement at the annual LA Calendar Motorcycle Show & Calendar Girl Music Festival taking place again this year on Sunday July 18th at the Queen Mary Event Park, Long Beach, CA.

The Calendar Motorcycle Show, now in its 19th year is renown as one of the top custom and performance street motorcycle event in the world featuring top name custom bike builders and product companies. It celebrates the annual premier of the world renown FastDates.com Motorcycle PinUp Calendars with the bikes, custom builders and Calendar Kitten models on hand to meet with the Show visitors.

Fitting into the event's theme with some incredible entertainment during the day is the Calendar Girl Music Festival which each year features some of the hottest up and coming new female singer songwriters and their bands. This year's Calendar Motorcycle Show & Music Festival is no exception as beautiful TV and movie actress, singer and songwriter Elizabeth Nicole both hosts and performs at this year's event. Elizabeth started out as a young child actress on TV soaps like Port Charles, and dancing with the Jeoffrey Ballet company in Chicago.

In high school Elizabeth's creative passion turned to pop music writing and singing, where she quickly showed herself to be one of the best singer songwriters in music today, certainly the equal of chart toppers like Taylor Swift and LeAnn Rimes. Just listen to her music at www.MySpace.com/Elizabeth Nicole. Last year Elizabeth also made her move to the big screen with featured roles in two movies "All Ages Night" and "Cornered".

Calendar Show promoter Jim Gianatsis discovered Elizabeth's music on MySpace.com and attended one of her local club performances in Los Angeles where she immediately became Jim's favorite singer. "It is so exciting to be able to hear and meet, and become friends with such an incredible talent like Elizabeth. She evokes the hit writing skills of a Taylor Swift, with the incredible vocals and passion of a LeAnn Rimes, in a beautiful girl that can also act. I'd like all of America to discover her like a few of us of already have and enjoy her music and talent, but I'm a little selfish too, and enjoy the opportunity to hear her up close in the small local clubs, not to mention hosting and performing at the Calendar Show each year!" More ELIZABETH

Headlining the 2010 Calendar Girl Music portion of the Show with 2 performance sets is singer songwriter and pop rocker Emily Jaye and her band Frentik featuring guitar and synth driven songs with pop savvy, and alt appeal.  Despite the in-your-face and empowered lyrics of Frentik front woman, Emily Jaye (EJ) “I’m not a bitch, I just don’t like you”, guys and girls alike come out time after time to see the band’s ass kicking shows throughout the LA club scene.

"EJ’s live performance is reminiscent of a young Pat Benatar, with the energy of contemporary rock bands like Paramore and No Doubt… "[she] changes emotion with the songs and dances frenetically about, yet exudes cool and confidence.” – LA Rock Music Examiner

Another beautiful new singer songwriter premiering her new album "Lost Inside a Moment" at this year's Festival is recent Australian arrival Katie Cole, who has been paying her dues at music clubs around town, but just recently opened a major concert for the legendary Glen Campbell and is looking to "Break Out" - one of her aptly named songs on her new LP.

Also on stage during the day is the popular all girl AC/DC tribute band Whole Lotta Rosies. And the Purrfect Angelz dance and music group which has performed around the world on USO tours, in many music videos, and on national TV shows from the CMA Awards to the ToNight Show with Jay Leno.

The 2010 LA Calendar Motorcycle Show & Calendar Girl Music Festival takes place on Sunday July 18th at the Queen Mary Event Park, Long Beach, CA. Gates open to the public from 10am to 6pm with the Concert starting on the Main Stage in the beautiful grass park beside the Pacific Ocean at 11:30am and going to 5:00pm. General Admission is just $25 Adult, $10 Children 10-16 years, and includes complimentary admission aboard the Queen Mary ghost ship (normally a separate $12 admission). More HERE

Hannespree World Superbike Championship , Round 9 of 13

Rea and Biaggi share World Superbike Wins in the Czech Republic

Bruno, Czech Republic, July 9-11th - Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) moved an impressive 68 points clear of his nearest challenger after two 20-lap races held in hot and steamy conditions in front of 64,000 fans at Brno. Max has now won ten races at Brno in all classes of competition, but today he had to share top billing with race one winner Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda). The British rider added to his Assen double with a virtual flag-to-flag win, to take his victory tally for 2010 to three. Biaggi could not do his usual double today but was peerless in race two, after changing his set-up between races and capitalizing when the track temperature jumped up by almost ten degrees. The other podium places were shared by Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) and Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox), but in the championship fight itself, the fate of Leon Haslam (Suzuki Alstare) in each race had the most effect. Eighth in race one and tenth in race two for Leon put him on 284 points to Biaggi’s class-leading 352. Rea is now third on 203, Checa (Althea Ducati) is fourth on 189, after finishing ninth and sixth today.

Nitro Nori glows brightest in Friday Practice at a scorching Brno
Practice Friday 9th - After a period in the relative doldrums by his own incredibly high standards, Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) burst back onto top form in the first period of qualifying, setting the best time of the opening day with a 1’59.277. He was less than a second from the track best. Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) was also into the 1’59s, second overall, with leader from the free session this morning, Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox), third. The Friday ‘front row’ was completed by privateer Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati).

For Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) Brno is his favourite circuit, one he was fifth at today, ahead of another rider who was resurgent in qualifying, BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s Ruben Xaus. Having crashed and broken his right leg here last year, this was Ruben’s near perfect comeback ride at this 5.403km circuit. Local hero Jakub ‘Kuba’ Smrz (Pata B&G Aprilia) found himself on a new machine this weekend, and made good use of his vee-four Aprilia, seventh fastest in the first qualifying session, one place above the determined Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda).

A former winner at this race, James Toseland (Yamaha Sterilgarda) was ninth, privateer Luca Scassa (Supersonic Ducati) a fine tenth. Alstare Suzuki’s talented duo of Sylvain Guintoli and Leon Haslam had a tough first day, with Sylvain 15th and Leon 17th. Top Kawasaki rider was Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) 18th. Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) qualified 12th but fell near the end of the session, and suffered a bruised chest and suspected concussion, and his condition will be reviewed for tomorrow’s race.

World Supersport
Illness had forced six-times Supersport World Championship race winner Katsuaki Fujiwara to miss the previous round at Misano, but his comeback started perfectly, posting the fastest day one time in qualifying. Second was Eugene Laverty (Parkalgar Honda) while Fujiwara’s team-mate Joan Lascorz was third fastest. The top four was completed by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Michele Pirro. A good day for Kawasaki riders put Fabien Foret (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) fifth, the top Triumph rider was David Salom (ParkinGO BE1 Triumph) one place back. Kenan Sofuolgu was seventh.

Cal Crutchlow rips up Bruno lap Record with 4th Superpole
Injured Troy Corser returns from overnight at Hospital

Brno, Saturday 10 July 2010 -Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) saved his best for last to take a new track best and head up Superpole qualifying, his fourth pre-race 'win' of the 2010 season. Crutchlow  was over 0.7 seconds faster than the next best rider, and in nine Superpoles this year, he has the best individual record. Behind him, Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) was second at his favourite circuit on the calendar, as he prepares to go out tomorrow and defend a 37-point championship lead. A resurgent Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) was a positive third, as he rebuilds from some less than satisfying recent results. Ruben Xaus (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) finished an impressive fourth, earning himself a front row start. He had crashed heavily here last year but today's result wiped out many memories of his 2009 misfortune.

In a textbook repeat of his domination of last year's qualifying in World Supersport, this year's Saturday Superpole at the Bruno World Superbke round saw Cal Crutchlow again today, leave his competitors behind to smash the Brno lap record, over three tenths faster than the previous record taken by Troy Bayliss in 2008. Crutchlow dominated the entire Superpole, running the first two sessions on a race tyre, he was fastest in each heat and nearly half a second clear of his closest rival in the second Superpole. It was Cal's 4th Superpole of the year.

Xaus's BMW being fourth means that there are four different machines on the front row, and with Sylvain Guintoli (Suzuki Alstare) and Luca Scassa (Supersonic Ducati) fifth and sixth restively, there are six different bikes in the top six grid slots. Scassa, a privateer, was top Ducati rider of any kind, with Ducati Xerox factory pilot Michel Fabrizio one place behind. Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati) will start from row two, taking eighth place as the last rider home in the final Superpole session. Lorenzo Lanzi (DFX Corse Ducati) just missed the final eight places of Superpole three, with James Toseland (Yamaha Sterilgarda) tenth. Max Neukirchner went 11th for Hannspree Ten Kate Honda and Tom Sykes ended a fruitful day 12th and on the third row for the Kawasaki Racing Team. Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox) crashed in two Superpole sessions, and now starts from the fourth row; championship contender Leon Haslam (Suzuki Alstare) is only one place ahead of him.

Cal Crutchlow: “I definitely hoped to be here and I’d rather give away a pole for a race win, but you’ve got to take them when you can. I enjoyed that, it was a good session for us. Most of the sessions have been strong and my Yamaha is working well. Max is hard to beat in the championship and especially round here. I can see a big battle tomorrow, maybe ten guys at least at the start. I thought I could have got into the 57s because I was riding very deep into the corners, and I actually had another qualifier left but I’m happy with that.”

Max Biaggi: “A first row result is good for me, but compared to last year’s race we’ve got a lot more work to do this weekend. Something we changed on the bike makes it a bit different so it’s not the same feeling. It’s better in other tracks but here we’ve got some difficulties. It’s getting a little bit better, the bike is not where I want, but I’m happy with my pace. We’ll see tomorrow.”

Jonathan Rea: “It is hot out there, but there’s a lot of breeze so it’s not too bad. I actually didn’t really know where to go after Superpole because I haven’t been in the top 3 for some time. I’d just like to thank all of my team, our package isn’t perfect but what we do have in the Ten Kate garage is a really hard work ethic and we’re trying. Hopefully we can get away good tomorrow and try and stay with these two guys as long as we can. I’ve got nothing to lose!”

Ruben Xaus: “First of all I’d like to give my best to Troy and hope he recovers as soon as possible because when two riders are on the team on fire, they go ahead. We did a good job today, the bike is now working well, we made a big step in Imola and physically I’m not feeling perfect but I was able to ride fast.”

Lorenzo Spies Podium Silverstone
Troy Corser

Troy CorserReturns from the hospital but won't race
Saturday 10th - Troy left hospital this morning after his hard hitting crash in Friday's Practice, and came straight to the track, but took no part in proceedings today and will also sit out raceday tomorrow. Although all the tests revealed no broken bones or serious damage, Troy has stretched ligaments to both collarbones and physically would not have been able to ride. So, Troy had the unique experience today of going round the service road on a scooter and observing the action from the other side of the armco. There was some good news for Troy’s team when team mate Ruben Xaus qualified on the front row of the grid - the first time he has done so on the S 1000 RR.

Troy - "The doctors in the hospital were very pleased with my rate of recovery overnight and so there was no reason for me to stay in another day. All my stats were fine and I felt pretty good, apart from my upper chest area which took the brunt of the impact with the bike.

I remember everything about the crash, even though it was a pretty heavy one. I highsided and went up in the air as far as I could go whilst still holding on the the bars! All my safety equipment - helmet, boots and gloves all did their job and I probably would’ve walked away from the crash if it hadn’t been for the bike hitting me. I had some checks at the Clinica Mobile at the track and then went to hospital really more as a precaution. There I had further X-rays and a CT scan and everything was fine. As I said, the only real damage was to the ligaments to my collarbones. They were stretched and, because of that, I couldn’t ride today.

Mentally, I’m absolutely fine. My head is completely clear and I have no fuzziness at all. If it wasn’t for the upper chest problem, I might have been able to ride today. Now though, I’ve got some time before Silverstone to recover properly and get fully fit. I know that I have been lucky in one way, but I also know that my relative lack of injury and my quick recovery time is all down to the fact that my physical condition and fitness level is very good. If I had not been so fit, I’m sure that the damage would’ve been greater and my recovery time would be longer.

It was a bit strange watching from the other side of the armco this afternoon and I hope that is the only time I have to do it this season! I prefer to be on my bike, on the track. I will get straight back into training as soon as I can and then get ready for Silverstone - and another podium.

Oh, and congratulations to Ruben for getting his front row grid spot. Hopefully, he’ll have a couple of good races and get some good results. See ya," - Troy

Lascorz puts Kawasaki on World Supersport Pole
Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Motocard.com) took pole, his second of the year, with his very last lap of qualifying, displacing his team-mate Katsuaki Fujiwara to second in the process. Despite crashing in qualifying today, Eugene Laverty (Parkalgar Honda) went third while a spectacularly successful qualifying for Kawasaki was completed by Fabien Foret (Lorenzini by Leoni) fourth quickest and therefore the third Kawasaki rider on the front row. Hannspree Ten Kate Honda riders Kenan Sofuoglu and  Michele Pirro were fifth and sixth fastest, respectively.  Gino Rea put a smile on local faces as he put his Intermoto Czech Honda seventh, ahead of his British countryman, Chaz Davies (ParkinGO BE1 Triumph), just one place back.

Rea and Biaggi share wins at superheated Brno
Race Day, Brno, Sunday July 11th - Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) moved an impressive 68 points clear of his nearest challenger after two 20-lap races held in hot and steamy conditions in front of 64,000 fans at Brno.

Superbike Race One to Jonthan Rea / Ten Kate Hannspree Honda
Rea ground out a great win, by 2.5 seconds from Biaggi’s Aprilia, putting himself back into the spotlight after some tough races in the past few weeks.  His last podium before this had been at Kyalami, back in May. Rea had been third on the grid, with Biaggi second and pole man Crutchlow rode hard and well to take third place. Sylvain Guintoli (Suzuki Alstare) equalled his best race finish of fourth, while Ruben Xaus (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) had his best result yet on his German machine, fifth. Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox), fast in early qualifying but 15th after Superpole, recovered well to go sixth, holding off James Toseland (Yamaha Sterilgarda) who has been suffering from a chest infection at this race.

Jonathan Rea: “At the start I didn’t really know what was going on but I ended up going to the front. This race win I’d like to dedicate to my team boss, Ronald ten Kate, who is not here with us this weekend. Today it was like out there on the bike I could do nothing wrong, now I’ll go back to the guys and prepare a better bike for race 2 and see what we can do. I just had to capitalize on Max’s weaknesses in some corners, it was a really difficult race out there and very hot.

Max Biaggi: “We came here on Friday and we didn’t really have the same feeling as I had last year so we tried to set up the bike as close as last year’s machine. Basically we improved, but my feeling was not great. Unfortunately this weekend has been like this, but we will make some modifications for race 2 and hopefully there will be some surprises.”

Cal Crutchlow: “To say I’m disappointed is probably an understatement. I went into the race with high hopes, the grip yesterday was really good for us and in the heat but as you saw we were struggling with rear grip from the start. Johnny rode fantastic and rode away from me, and also Max. I tried my best and that’s all I can do.”

Superbike Race Two to points leader Max Biaggi / Aprilia Alitalia
Biaggi found the last one percent of speed he was missing in race one to record his ninth win of the season, giving him a 50% win ratio so far. Rea was an early leader but finally finished a clear second, 4.6 seconds behind the Italian, after Max eased past, with Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox) third, the only Ducati podium spot of the day. Two-times champion Toseland made a great recovery from 12th on lap one to fourth, catching and passing Haga with one lap to go. Checa was sixth, Guintoli seventh and Biaggi’s team-mate Leon Camier eighth. Shane Byrne (Althea Ducati) got ninth, one place up on the luckless Haslam, who now goes to his home race of Silverstone to try and claw back points from Biaggi. Cal Crutchlow pitted to change a rear tyre in race two, and when he went back out he set a new lap record in race conditions, with a 1’59.291.

Max Biaggi: “Knowing the track quite well here and the passion of the fans in the Czech Republic, we tried something really special and made some changes on the bike, weight distribution and gearbox and the result was very good so I’m happy. For me it’s the tenth victory here, and this is my second home country. I love this place!”

Jonathan Rea: “Max did an unbelievable pace, I know how hard it was to hold on to second and he was going away from us, but anyway it’s been a good weekend with a 1-2 today. Thanks for all my team for digging deep this weekend and giving me a package that I could race with.”

Michel Fabrizio: “I hope I can continue this way for the rest of  the season, we did a very good result in race 2 especially after the problem I had in the first race. I had to defend my position of course in the battle with Xaus but I’m pleased to be back on the podium again.”

Big MotoGP Rider
Changes for 2011
Rossi to Ducati!
Stoner to Honda!

Ducati and Stoner to part company the end of 2010 season after 4 fantastic years....
Ducati Corse Press Release,
BolognaFriday Jul 09, 2010-
The Valencia Grand Prix on November 7th 2010 will be the event that concludes four years of extraordinary collaboration between Ducati and Casey Stoner. An important relationship characterized by a strong reciprocal esteem and many victories, among which the first MotoGP World Title for both the Italian manufacturer and the Australian rider.

Stoner arrived in Ducati in 2007 and, riding the Desmosedici GP7 that was making its debut in the new 800cc category, he took his first victory in the very first race, embarking on a path that would lead to the world title later in that same year and many more successes during subsequent seasons.

Ducati would like to thank Casey Stoner, who has decided to undertake a new challenge, with gratitude and affection that will always remain.

“I would like to thank Casey on behalf of our fans and our sponsors, but most of all on behalf of all the people working at Ducati,” commented Filippo Preziosi, Ducati Corse General Director. “The victories and emotions he gave us, rewarded all the hard work and sacrifice we made. In these four years together we have had a lot of great moments. Securing the 2007 MotoGP World Championship title and the victory at Mugello in 2009 were moments that we will never forget. In Casey we not only found an incredibly talented rider, but also an honest and loyal guy and that’s why there will always be a strong and sincere bond between us, even as a competitor.”

“I must thank Ducati for giving me such a great opportunity to race and win with them over these past four years” commented Casey Stoner. “They took a gamble when they signed me at the end of 2006 as I was unknown, but as we worked together we were able to win a Championship, many races and challenge for the Championship in the last two seasons. I have now decided to move on and I will have new challenges in the future and different obstacles to overcome, but I will not forget these years with Ducati and the people I have had the privilege to work so closely with. So a big thanks to Ducati and all our sponsors who we have shared success with while achieving lifelong goals”

Honda Racing to Have 3 Man Squad in 20111 to recapture the MotoGP Crown
Honda Motorsport 7/9/10 - HRC is delighted to announce that Casey Stoner will become a factory Honda rider in next year's MotoGP World Championship. The Australian 2007 World Champion, who rode in the Honda LCR Team in his debut MotoGP season in 2006, will rejoin Honda after four seasons with Ducati. Honda's complete factory team line-up for 2011 will be officially presented later in the season.

HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto said:
"We are very pleased that Casey will join Honda again next year. Clearly he is one of the top riders in MotoGP and he will bring valuable speed and experience to our team. In the factory Honda squad we already have two very strong and experienced riders in Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso who are performing very well and currently hold second and third positions in the 2010 World Championship. HRC hopes also to retain these two riders for next year - giving us what would be a truly formidable line-up."

The biggest move, still unconfirmed officially, is reigning 2009 MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi leaving Yamaha with his complete support team of mechanics and manager Jeremy Burgess and moving to Ducati.

It has been known talk e for a couple of years now that the 5-time Italian World Champion was hoping to end his career racing for an Italian manufacturer, and in particular Ducati.

Adding to Valentino's decision to make that move now, sooner than later, was his statement last year that he did not want to remain at Yamaha if they had two number one riders on the team, he and Jorge Lorenzo. With Jorge now leading the 2010 Championship on a bike that Valentino developed, the line in the sand had been crossed.

And we might guess that Valentino's crash and resulting broken leg at Misano last month while fighting team mate Jorge for the race lead, made Rossi realize even more dramatically he needed to make the planed move now, and that his career might not last many more years.

The real shocker though, is the work that Casey Stoner is leaving the highly competitive Ducati, with his complete support team, and the bike which won him the 2008 MotoGP World Championship.

We would guess this has a lot to do with the recent budget cuts at Ducati which saw both the top team managers and engineers at Ducati Corse MotoGP and Ducati Corse Superbike let go last fall, and move to Honda and BMW respectively this year.

That and the fact Honda had vowed last year they would buy their way back to the top of the podium in MotoGP, even if they had to do it with non-Japanese riders and engineers.

Ducati probably just didn't have the money to match what Honda has offered Stoner. And with the knowledge that Rossi would be joining them anyway next season, Ducati just didn't see the need to beak the bank to try and keep Stoner.

Ducati's other regretful decision, one of many they seem to be making these days, is that they will still probably continue to keep American rider Nicky Hadyen for next year, despite the fact he can't get anywhere close to winning a race again. Ducati North America somehow thinks having Hayen on the team is critical for bike sales in the American market. That is just plain stupid. Customers buy bikes when they win races, not when they loose. Americans bought a lot of Ducati's because foreigners Carl Fogarty, Troy Bayliss and casey Stoner won on them. Not because of Ben Bostrom, Neil Hodgson and Nicky Hayden loosing on them. - Editor

Ducati now on par with the 4-cylinders

Brno, Sunday 11th July - Following the official results of Race 2 held at Brno (Czech Republic) today, the FIM SBK Technical Director informs that the average value of the event averages over the last three events of the 2010 FIM Superbike World Championship, held at Miller Motorsports Park (USA), Misano (San Marino) and Brno (Czech Republic), favours the 1000cc 4-cylinder motorcycles by more than 5 points (see the attached document issued by the official time keeping).
Therefore from the next SBK event, that will take place at Silverstone (UK) on 30-31 July and 1 August, the new minimum weight for 1200cc 2-cylinder motorcycles shall be 162 Kg, a reduction of 3 Kg as stipulated in Article 2.4.4.2 (Minimum Weight Adjustments) of the FIM rulebook.
The minimum weight for 1000cc 4-cylinder motorcycles shall remain unchanged  at 162 Kg.

Fabriizo Works Hard to take Podium for Ducati in Race 2 after Race 1 DNF
Brno (Czech Republic), Sunday 11th July: A day of mixed fortunes for Michel Fabrizio and the Ducati Xerox Team on the Czech circuit of Brno today; a technical problem forced the Italian to retire in race 1 but he fought back to take a well deserved podium in race 2, after battling against Ruben Xaus (BMW). Noriyuki Haga on the other hand, starting from fifteenth on the grid, rode two strong races and made up many positions to close sixth and fifth.

Noriyuki Haga made a great start in the first race, carving his way through the field to move up from fifteenth on the grid to sixth by the end of the first lap. He chased Sylvain Guintoli for the first few laps and then Ruben Xaus but, although he got close, he was unable to pass the BMW. In the last part of the race he started to suffer from tyre wear and fought to the line to maintain sixth position, just ahead of James Toseland. Michel Fabrizio found himself caught up in traffic at the first corner and was in thirteenth position on the opening lap. Over the next five laps he made a good recovery as far as eighth place but unfortunately, as he was beginning to gain on Toseland, he suffered a mechanical problem with the engine and, finding he could not change gear, he was obliged to retire to the garage during the twelfth lap.

Race 2 took place on a much hotter track (60°C) and this time both Ducati Xerox riders made strong starts, particularly Noriyuki who by the second lap had already made up nine positions. Michel got past Xaus on lap five to take third place, leaving Ruben fourth ahead of Noriyuki in fifth. The Roman rider continued to fight against Xaus who pushed hard to get ahead once more in lap nine but on the fifteenth lap the Spanish rider made a mistake and fell, putting paid to his podium chances. Fabrizio, already too far behind race leaders Max Biaggi and Jonathan Rea, did not give up and continued to push to ensure himself of a podium spot after the disappointment of race 1. Noriyuki, who changed to the a r A type rear tyre for race 2 (a softer tyre than the C used in race 1), was doing everything he could to hold fourth place but two laps from the end Toseland got by, and the Japanese rider closed fifth.

After this ninth World Superbike round, Haga continues to lie in fifth position, holding 172 points, while his team-mate Fabrizio is eighth with 147 points. Ducati is third in the manufacturers standings with 276 points.

Noriyuki Haga (Race 1 – 6th, Race 2 – 5th)
“I made a strong start in Race 1 but it was difficult to catch Xaus. My tyres were not bad during the first half of the race but nevertheless I couldn’t push as I wanted to and Xaus remained there in front of me. In the second race we changed the tyre but maybe it doesn’t suit my riding style because I didn’t feel so stable and it didn’t give me enough feeling. Having said that, I was able to make up several positions and fifth, even though I hoped to do much better, wasn’t bad considering my grid position.”

Michel Fabrizio (Race 1 – DNF , Race 2 – 3rd)
“In Race 1 I realised straight away that I had a problem because I wasn’t able to push and then the bike started to vibrate a great deal. At a certain point I wasn’t able to put the bike into gear and so had to come back to the box. It’s a shame because I was gaining on Toseland and thought I could run a good race, maybe even reaching the podium. Race 2 went much better. I defended myself and am satisfied with the result, though I was sorry for Xaus of course.”

Crutchlow takes hard fought podium for Yamaha in eventful WSB Brno weekend
Race one at the Brno circuit saw Yamaha Sterilgarda rider Cal Crutchlow made a strong start, taking race favourite Max Biaggi on the second lap for second place. He then set about chasing down race leader Johnny Rea, and was gradually closing in on him when his grip started to drop after several laps. Despite the difficulty Crutchlow kept his focus and managed to hold off the advances of Biaggi until just four laps from the end, initially rebuffing the Italian's attempts to pass before finally surrendering second. He crossed the line in third just four seconds from the lead, and took the fastest lap of the race award, scoring a 1'59.964 on his third lap. Team mate James Toseland fought hard from his tenth place grid start, working his way through to seventh to start chasing down Noriyuki Haga for sixth. Despite also suffering a lack of grip Toseland managed to bring the gap between him and Haga down to 0.1 seconds by the final lap but ran out of time for the pass.

Race two and disaster struck for Crutchlow. A defective rear tyre saw the British rider gradually drop back to seventh before pulling in to avoid a crash. The tyre was changed and Crutchlow rejoined, delivering yet again the fastest lap of the race with an incredible 1'59.291, making up a couple of places to finish in 14th. Team mate Toseland had an electronic issue on the start line, relegating him to last at the first corner, 22 places from the front. The British rider then put in an astounding performance, making up 12 places in the next lap and going on to fight his way right through to fourth at the line, taking an amazing 18 places in his fight to regain position.

Toseland leaves Brno after the mixed weekend having climbed up a place to sixth in the standings with 160 points. Team mate Crutchlow remains in tenth position on 138 points. The team now head to the riders home race at Silverstone in the UK at the beginning of August.

Cal Crutchlow, Yamaha Sterilgarda World Superbike Team (3rd, 14th)
"I'm disappointed to be honest, I knew we had the pace this weekend to win. The first race didn't go too much to plan, we had a bit of a problem with rear grip so we made a change for the second race which I thought was going to be really good. I did 12 laps on the rear tyre and to be honest I was just about to crash so I had to pull into change it. The tyre looked brand new after 12 laps where it should have looked worn. We did the last eight laps on a brand new tyre, I did the fastest lap of the race and the tyre looked perfect. I'm disappointed I couldn't take it to the front guys but that's racing, we'll go to Silverstone now and make up for it."

James Toseland, Yamaha Sterilgarda World Superbike Team (7th, 4th)
"Race one I had a problem with the electronics which weren't working as they should do so I couldn't get the exit speed I needed. I was surprised to finish seventh. It was the same system we ran the day before so we couldn't put our finger on why it changed so much. Race two my launch control didn't engage, so I bogged on the line to start and I was last going into turn one. I thought I wasn't prepared to have next week off feeling miserable so I rode hard and the bike worked really well. I dug deep and went for it and managed to get past 12 guys in the next lap and then keep on pushing towards the front."

Alstare Suzuki mixed Results at Bruno
Team Suzuki Alstare's difficult weekend continued today in Brno. Both riders hoped that solutions had been found to the problems in practice and qualifying, but while Sylvain Guintoli took a superb fourth in race 1 and a seventh in race two, Leon Haslem ’s struggles continued. It was never going to be easy for Leon, starting from the fourth row of the grid, but lack of grip in both races meant that he could only finish eighth in race one and tenth in race two. Both Sylvain and Leon were using the new Pirelli tyres, which seem to be causing difficulties setting up the bike. Team Suzuki Alstare were not the only ones to experience tyre problems today and they will probably try and use the older ones next time out - as they did in race 2 in Misano in the last round.

Jonathan Rea (Honda) won the first race, with Max Biaggi (Aprilia) second and pole-sitter Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) third. Biaggi then comfortably won the second race, with Rea second and Michel Fabrizio (Ducati) third.

Sylvain - Race 1: 4th,
Race 2: 7th
I am quite happy with my results today, especially my fourth in the first race. I felt good today and I enjoyed the first race more than the second. Just like Misano, we have been struggling getting our bike to work with these new tyres. We’ve been having problems setting up the bike with these tyres, but when we use the older tyres we have much less problems.  I used the new tyres in both races today, but the one in race two behaved very differently to the one in race one, even though it was the same type! After my fourth in race one, I was looking forward to giving it a real go in race two, so it was a bit disappointing that the tyre didn’t grip.  It meant that I just couldn’t push as hard as I wanted to and I struggled throughout the race.

Leon - Race 1: 8th, Race 2: 10th
It’s hard to say how disappointed and frustrated I am today. If I thought that the problems were my fault, I’d put my hand up straightaway. We first experienced grip problems with the new tyres in Misano. Whatever we tried just didn’t seem to work. We used the new tyres in race one there and I had a poor result, so we changed to the older tyres for race two, went back to our base set-up and I finished second!

We worked with the new tyres all weekend and we have struggled all weekend. We did manage to improve the bike a bit for today, but the engine is pushing in almost everywhere and the bike is not easy to ride. The new tyres have got more grip, but getting the bike to work with them is another thing. There are a few people who have got them to work, but the majority of us are struggling.

The tyre in race two didn’t work at all and I almost couldn’t finish the race - it was that bad! I felt that I was going to be highsided all the time and I don’t think I’ve been passed by that many people all year! Cal (Crutchlow) obviously had a similar tyre to mine and he felt it was bad enough to pit and change it for another one. Although his second tyre was the same, it behaved completely differently and he was able to lap over a second lap quicker straightaway!
I’m trying to think what positives we can take from this weekend and my comment is... none. The only thing I do know is that we will not be using these new tyres again. We’ll go back to the older tyres, a base set-up we know and I am convinced that I’ll be able to lap a lot faster and be challenging for the podium again.

Rea Hits Back to move up the standings for Ten Kate Honda
Jonathan Rea from the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team made a fabulous recovery from a short run of disappointing results in recent WSBK rounds to take his third win of the season, and move up to third in the overall standings after nine rounds.

He followed his race one victory, his first WSBK win at Brno, with a strong second in race two, starting from third on the grid each time. He beat Max Biaggi in race one and was second to him in race two, with Cal Crutchlow and Michel Fabrizio taking the final podium places on offer.

Rea’s haul of 45 points today propelled him back to third place overall. Biaggi leads with 352, Leon Haslam has 284, Jonathan 203 and Carlos Checa is now fourth, on 189.

In the first race Rea took the lead with an audacious lap one move around the outside of Biaggi on the exit of the final chicane and was never headed for the lead in all 20 laps. Jonathan’s team-mate was not so fortunate, as 11th fastest Superpole qualifier Max Neukirchner touched with another rider on lap one and fell, being unable to restart.

In race two Rea started aggressively, leading for six laps but when Biaggi went past Jonathan could not quite go at the same pace. Rea was almost ten seconds ahead of third place rider Fabrizio, in what was a great weekend for his overall championship position. Neukirchner’s weekend ended in the gravel, as he collided with another rider in race two, they both fell, and both had to retire.

Echo CRS Honda rider Broc Parkes rode strongly and went 13th in race one, scoring three points, then followed that up with 12th in race two, making this his most successful weekend of the season. Broc, who was 21st on the grid, is now 20th in the rankings, on nine points.

Disapointment for Kawasai Duo at Bruno WSBK
Brno July 11th - Kawasaki Racing Team rider, Tom Sykes solely added to the points tally in Brno, Czech Republic today where he continued to make his mark on the Kawasaki machine with a credible 11th place in race one but had an unfortunate DNF in race two following a collision with Neukirchner on the first lap.

Ex-MotoGP star, Chris Vermeulen once again suffered from an unfortunate crash beyond his control in race one which took him out of the race in the opening lap. The Australian managed to start race two but due to severe pain in his already damaged right knee, he was unable to complete the race returning to the box on lap two.

With temperatures increasing as the weekend progressed, both Sykes and Vermeulen worked tirelessly to obtain the best possible set-up in the scorching heat. Working predominantly on the balance of the Ninja machine, 24-year-old Sykes improved dramatically from 18th place on Friday to a third row start for the two 20-lap races.

It was once again a challenging qualifying for Vermeulen who unfortunately was not able to move his ZX-10R machine inside row five on the 21 grid line up.

The round nine Hannspree World Superbike victories were taken by Northern Irishman, Jonathan Rea and championship leader, Max Biaggi in front of the 64,000 enthusiastic Czech crowd. Sykes currently holds 16th in the Championship standings with Vermuelen in 19th.

Tom Sykes: “Overall it’s been a disappointing end to the race weekend. I know we started off quite slow but we had a decent Superpole and tried a few things in the morning warm-up and got a bit better balance with the bike. We had an eleventh in race one which was nothing special as we had a few struggles which the boys managed to put right for race two, so big thanks to the their hard work. In race two the bike felt very strong and I got a good start but unfortunately we had a racing incident on the first lap which spoilt the weekend. I was looking forward to a strong ride in race two as many people dropped out so I think we could have had an eight or a ninth here. Obviously there is a few ifs and but I’ll brush myself off and look forward to my home race at Silverstone.”

Chris Vermeulen: “We’ve had a real struggle here in Brno this weekend. We made up a little bit of pace during practices but like everyone else here we had problems with edge grip. Having to start on fifth row continuously makes life difficult and I got caught up in a rider tangle on turn one and was whipped out of the race.  I was optimistic about starting race two but I just could not continue after two laps due to the pain in my damaged right knee. I am obviously extremely disappointed and frustrated with my knee injury which is tirelessly holding me back and where we ended up this weekend. I will have to discuss with both my team and my doctor this week on how best to move forward.”
